Rogers named Class of 2012 valedictorian
Derek Rogers arrived at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro in 2009 as a high-school sophomore in need of some direction.
“My attitude and my grades were horrible,” said Rogers, a native of Richmond who is leaving Fishburne this weekend as the Class of 2012 valedictorian.
The focus and discipline that is the focus of life at Fishburne, a 130-cadet all-boys private school founded in 1879, were keys to Rogers’ eventual success.
And that success, as it came in the classroom and on the drill field, started to feed on itself. Read more
Chandler Bryant: A Summer School Success Story
Chandler Bryant was struggling through his freshman year in high school in Virginia Beach when his parents came to him with an idea.

“My grades were slipping a little bit, and my parents decided, Hey, how about we just send you here? It would be a good place, a good experience. So I was, like, alright. I was on the bandwagon,” said Bryant, who had such a good experience with the five-week summer-school session last summer that he decided to stay on at Fishburne for his sophomore year. Read more
Fishburne Raider Meet 2012

This past weekend, Fishburne held its 10th annual Raider Guard Meet.
Fishburne does a great job hosting its Raider Meets, and this year was no exception. The cadets and staff from Fishburne received high praise from those that attended.
“They represented Fishburne Military Academy’s efficiency and professionalism very well.” said 1Sgt Charles McIntyre. 1Sgt McIntyre went on to say: “The support and professionalism of the Senior Cadet’s Cadre was excellent.” Read more
FMS Football Helmet Replacement Program
Due to a new policy by The National Athletic Equipment Reconditioning Association (NAERA), helmets over 10 years old will no longer be recertified for use.
Fishburne football has 55 usable football helmets for the upcoming season. However, 33 of those helmets will be decertified after the forthcoming season as they will be over 10 years old in 2013, leaving us with 22 serviceable helmets for the 2013 season. In total over the next two years we will have to replace 43 helmets. Read more

On Saturday, March 31, Fishburne hosted a drill meet that was by all accounts a tremendous success. Harrisonburg, Buckingham and Massanutten Military Academy attended the meet.
SFC Grazier AI, Buckingham HS, said the meet was the “best meet” he had ever attended. He said he really liked how the meet was laid out and organized. The drill teams used Hobby-Hudgins locker rooms, and the lower tennis courts were marked and divided to allow two events to be scored simultaneously. The event lasted all morning, from opening ceremony to the presentation of awards. Read more
